The second session of the World Urban Forum was held in Barcelona, Spain, in September 2004.

The third session of the World Urban Forum will be held in Vancouver from 19 to 23 June 2006.

The Forum consisted of dialogues among partners on urban culture, urban realities, urban governance and urban renaissance, as well as thematic discussions on urban poverty, urban resources, urban sustainability, urban services, and urban disasters and reconstruction.

In 2004, The State of the World's Cities Report 2004 2005 Globalization and Urban Culture was launched at the second session of the World Urban Forum and was very well received.

Governments and all Habitat Agenda partners are encouraged to participate in the third session of the World Urban Forum for a vibrant exchange of information and best practices on urban sustainablilty.

The second World Urban Forum was held in Barcelona, Spain, in September 2004, under the theme of cities as crossroads of culture.

The Minister of Housing of Spain spoke on the World Urban Forum held in Barcelona, Spain, from 13 to 17 September 2004.

The results will be exhibited at various international venues including the World Urban Forum, to be held in Vancouver, Canada, in June 2006.

Expressing its appreciation to the Government of Spain and the city of Barcelona for their willingness to host the second session of the World Urban Forum in 2004 and to the Government of Canada and the city of Vancouver for their willingness to host the third session of the World Urban Forum in 2006,

Those endeavours must be pursued in the period leading up to the next session of the Governing Council and the next World Urban Forum.

Expressing its appreciation also to the Government of Canada and the city of Vancouver for hosting the third session of the World Urban Forum from 19 to 23 June 2006 and to the Government of China and the city of Nanjing for their willingness to host the fourth session of the World Urban Forum in 2008,

The Information Services Section played a major role in promoting World Habitat Day and the second World Urban Forum, and took steps to enhance the corporate identity of UN Habitat.

The Urban Millennium Partnership on localizing the Millennium Development Goals, promoted by UN Habitat, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and UCLG was launched at the World Urban Forum and received support from many partners.

17. Invites donor countries to support the participation of representatives of the developing countries in the second and future sessions of the World Urban Forum

The second World Urban Forum, held in Barcelona, Spain, in September 2004, saw an increase in participation from 1,195 to 4,389, reflecting a growing interest by policymakers and non governmental organizations in issues of sustainable urban development.

The World Urban Forum is convened every two years by the Executive Director as a non legislative technical forum in which experts can exchange views in the years when the Governing Council of UN Habitat does not meet.

Women's World Forum, Barcelona

The biennial World Urban Forum was established by the Governing Council of UN Habitat in its resolution 18 5 as a multi stakeholder forum to support dialogue and the exchange of experience in support of the implementation of the Habitat Agenda.

Welcoming the offer of the Government of China and the city of Nanjing to host the fourth session of the World Urban Forum from 13 to 17 October 2008,

2007 World Social Forum The seventh World Social Forum was held in Nairobi, Kenya in January 2007.

The strategy was also presented and discussed at the following forums Expert Group Meeting for Creating Strategies for Urban Youth Employment in Africa, June 2004 International Youth Day, Nairobi, 12 August 2004 and the second World Urban Forum, Barcelona, Spain, 13 17 September 2004.

In cooperation with the Fourth World Water Forum and the Japan Water Forum, UNICEF is planning to organize the second Children's World Water Forum as a parallel event.

At the global level, the Partners and Youth Section will coordinate activities which support the participation of youth partners in major policy forums such as the Governing Council and the World Urban Forum.

16. Notes that the upcoming sessions of the World Urban Forum, a non legislative technical forum, which will be held in Barcelona in 2004 and in Vancouver in 2006, will offer an opportunity to experts to exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learned in the field of human settlements

Fourth, we could continue the World Youth Forum.

The World Urban Forum, in particular, had provided politicians, workers and experts with the opportunity to make an extremely productive contribution to the consideration of a wide range of current urbanization and human settlement problems.

Governments are encouraged to participate, and to support the participation of Habitat partner groups from developing countries, in the third session of the World Urban Forum, to be held in Vancouver, Canada, in June 2006.

During the second session of the World Urban Forum, held in September 2004, all meeting documents, including pre session, in session and approved documents, the daily journal and the daily programme, were posted on the UN Habitat website.

Mr. Kogda (Burkina Faso) asked whether the issue of the financial resources for UN Habitat had been addressed at the 2004 World Urban Forum in Barcelona and, if so, whether any proposals had been made to improve the situation.
