That dire financial situation is regrettably also making it unfeasible for the United Nations to meet its obligation to reimburse troop contributing countries and to return credits to Member States.

Appeals should also be made to Member States, in particular, to troop contributing countries, to actively participate in statistical surveys by submitting data according to agreed procedures and statistical models.

The Committee was informed that the Working Group conducted its review on these issues on the basis of data submitted by 32 Member States, of which 22 were troop contributing countries.

In response to suggestions from Member States, the Department of Safety and Security would brief the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations and troop contributing countries on general and mission specific security coordination measures.

The Secretariat must also endeavour to speed up reimbursement of the significant amounts owed to troop contributing countries, but, to that end, Member States must pay their assessments in full and on time.
