The survey was based on the recommendations of the ad hoc expert working group.

The Expert Group welcomed the invitation made by the expert from China to hold the second meeting of the Expert Group in Beijing.

On 3 August 2005, the Bureau of the Commission approved the conclusions and recommendations of the ad hoc expert working group on energy statistics, including the draft terms of reference for the city group and the intersecretariat working group on energy statistics.

Recommendations of the Expert Group

The Expert Group further agreed to establish an intersessional working group on the issue and to convene, subject to the availability of funding, a meeting on the subject.

The outcomes of the research contributed to two reports submitted by the independent expert to the fifth session of the Working Group.

Following the request of the Commission, the Statistics Division convened the ad hoc expert working group on energy statistics from 23 to 25 May 2005.

The Expert Group proposes that the working group should meet, at a time to be determined in consultation with the Stockholm Convention Secretariat, to develop a substantial response to the Basel Convention request.
