He emphasized the need to encourage collaboration between governments and corporations so as to increase the opportunities for governments to avail themselves of the positive contributions that corporations could make.

This could include examining how to help countries address issues related to the balancing of corporate contributions and development needs so as to ensure that the positive contributions of TNC presence were maximized.

Apart from the fact that these initiatives include the participation of TNCs, the scope of positive corporate contributions in this regard could be further explored.

In the ensuing discussion, questions were raised regarding the precise definitions of general terms such as corporate responsibility , corporate social responsibility and positive corporate contribution , and regarding the notion of a corporate responsibility for development, as well as UNCTAD's mandate in this regard.

As a result, corporations may be increasingly willing to make greater contributions towards the development effort of host countries by integrating more development concepts into their business operations.
