That freedom is most essential and fundamental for human beings to enjoy other freedoms, such as the freedoms from fear and to live in dignity.

It was also pointed out that there was a close interrelationship between freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity.

In connection with the proposals clustered under the heading Freedom to live in dignity , the Government of El Salvador reaffirms its commitment to human dignity, the strengthening of the rule of law, democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice and the building of a culture of peace.

We proceed from the fact that people in developed and developing countries alike aspire to live in dignity, free from want and fear.

Two values in particular should be mentioned. These are freedom and solidarity freedom in all its aspects, as skilfully described by the Secretary General as freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity.

In the twenty first century, all States and their collective institutions must advance the cause of larger freedom by ensuring freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity.

In the context of freedom to live in dignity, Singapore fully subscribes to the importance of the rule of law as a necessary framework for an enabling environment in the new millennium in which we can work to advance human development.

As to the section on freedom to live in dignity, we would like to express our gratitude to the Secretary General, who acknowledged the importance of human rights and the rule of law not only as principles alone, but also a the main factor guaranteeing security and development.

What we had in mind was not only bread, butter and sausages, but also justice, democracy, truth, legality, human dignity, freedom of convictions, and the repair of the republic.

Convinced that the three categories of freedom, namely, freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity, are essential for both developed and developing societies and indispensable for the peace and stability of the world,

Thirdly, concerning the freedom to live in dignity or the protection of the vulnerable and the rule of law, we commend the Secretary General for raising the rule of law, human rights and democracy as one of the important pillars for the United Nations, along with development and peace and security.

The Singapore delegation welcomes the Secretary General's refreshing approach in issuing his report as a call to the United Nations membership to realize what he called larger freedoms for all freedom from want, freedom from fear, freedom to live in dignity.

In this regard, we are grateful to him for his observation that, in the twenty first century, States and their collective institutions must advance the cause of larger freedom by ensuring freedom from want, freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity.

For instance, the concepts of freedom from want , freedom from fear and freedom to live in dignity have been enshrined in many religious philosophies as noble pursuits, and emulating those age old concepts in our efforts could act as a catalyst.

Those parts of the body which we think to be less honorable, on those we bestow more abundant honor and our unpresentable parts have more abundant propriety

And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
