Organization of the secretariat of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific

2.1 The secretariat of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)

In 1987, the Department was made a State Secretariat for Social Affairs and the Status of Women.

On many occasions, the Caucus worked closely with the Special Secretariat on Policies for Women and different organizations of the women's social movement.

Following consultation between the secretariat of the Commission on Human Rights, the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations, the Economic and Social Council secretariat and the Non Governmental Organizations Section of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the organization decided to withdraw its written statement (see E C.2 2005 R.3).

Also, the need for a more vibrant Economic and Social Council, an efficient Secretariat and adequate funding cannot be overemphasized for a stronger United Nations.

In 1989, the State Secretariat became the Ministry of Social Development and Advancement of Women, and, since November 1996, it has been the Ministry of Social Development, Population, Advancement of Women and Protection of Children (MDS P PF PE).

This programme was co financed by the Directorate General of Employment and Social Affairs of the European Commission (80 ) and the General Secretariat for Gender Equality (20 ).

26. Decides to abolish six General Service posts, three in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the Secretariat and three in the Economic Commission for Europe

We would continue also to engage actively in the strengthening of the Economic and Social Council, the restructuring of the Secretariat and the setting up of peacebuilding commission.

The project will be executed by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in collaboration with the Statistics Division of the SADC secretariat and in association with ECA.

The Egyptian delegation is motivated by its dedication to the idea of genuine reform of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, the Security Council and the Secretariat.

Expresses its appreciation to the Secretary General of the United Nations for the support provided to the secretariat through the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Department of Management.

The Forum secretariat has worked closely with major group focal points to enhance participation in accordance with the rules of procedure of the functional commissions of the Economic and Social Council.

Having in mind the necessity to pursue the process of revitalization of the General Assembly, reform of the Security Council, restructuring of the Economic and Social Council and modernization of the Secretariat,

The Secretary General's recommendations are timely with regard to the reform and renewal of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Secretariat and the establishment of a Peacebuilding Commission.

19.2 The Secretary General's bulletin of 22 September 2000, entitled Organization of the secretariat of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ST SGB 2000 12), is hereby abolished.

It is against that background that we must view the reforms envisaged for the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Commission on Human Rights and the Secretariat.
