My team had identified the lack of a formal, comprehensive fraud prevention strategy during the previous audit.

The Board notes that, although some steps have been taken to identify mechanisms to deal with fraud, a fraud prevention strategy was yet to be compiled as at 25 May 2005.

The working group will also propose an effective mechanism through which to coordinate the efforts on corruption and fraud prevention of the United Nations and its funds and programmes.

I am pleased to note that the Office of the Comptroller General has drafted a policy on fraud awareness and prevention on which I have also provided my comments.
