The Importance of Doing Business

Doing Business does not provide policy solutions.

I'm looking forward to doing business with you.

Doing so might even make good business sense.

They need to know where I'm doing my business, because they want to know about my business.

Speculation abounds that the panel might recommend outsourcing Doing Business, removing its rankings of countries for the ease of doing business in them, or even eliminating the report altogether.

Once we have stopped doing harm, we must start doing the right things.

So it must be doing something right.

Indeed, outsourcing or cutting Doing Business could damage the World Bank s standing.

So let's move away from thinking about business here and philanthropy there, and let's start thinking about doing good business.

They have degrees in political science, degrees in business they're entrepreneurs. They don't actually want to be doing what they're doing.

I think that you're doing the right thing.

Human rights need not take a back seat to doing business with China.

So what is it that America is doing right?

Finally, while Doing Business focuses on helping the poorest countries to improve their economic performance, it also influences advanced country policymaking and business practices.

But whatever the countries on the right are doing they are doing a much better job than begging.

Much of the world began to turn away from the American way of doing business.

(This year, Doing Business ranked China 91st out of the 185 national economies it examined.)

That is why Doing Business adjusts its indicators every year based on feedback and review.

Specifically, export dependence partly reflects the high degree of difficulty of doing business in China.

Given that the project s methodological flaws can be addressed with targeted review and reform, doing away with Doing Business altogether would be extreme and unnecessary.

Doing Business has been a leader in synthesizing subjective and quantitative data to create understandable metrics.

China, like France in the past, objects to the perceived Anglo American bias of Doing Business.

But what are these bees doing in the upper right corner?

You're all being intelligent right now, but you're not doing anything.

Well, we already have. In fact, we re doing it right now.

Right. So if the eyes are shining, you know you're doing it.

In an abstract sense, this is what Israel is doing right now.

Some argue that with this decision private companies will be less anxious when doing business with Iranian customers.

And right in between thinking and doing, I would say, there is experience.

Beyond the provision of cheap credit and concessional loans is the global export of China s way of doing business.

Moreover, generating economic growth requires hitting the right targets, not doing everything at once.

According to the World Bank, Brazil ranks 130th out of 185 countries in terms of the ease of doing business.

Companies and banks should be barred from doing business in or with settlements, especially with construction companies and their suppliers.

The World Bank publishes an annual review of the ease of doing business for 183 countries and sub national units.
