The United Nations delegation and local officials supported the creation, jointly by international donors and local stakeholders, of innovative and collaborative approaches to local economic development and community mobilization and empowerment.

At the Forum, participants discussed aspects of environmental management in drylands from a community perspective, the management of water resources in drylands and the mobilization of financial resources to combat desertification.

C. Resource mobilization and coordination, both domestic

At the 2002 Monterrey Conference, the international community agreed that a comprehensive approach to development financing that encompassed domestic resource mobilization, ODA and trade and investment was essential for achieving the MDGs.
