Development of periodical National Plan for promotion of Gender Equality

The second National Plan for Equality of Portugal states that each Ministry has to appoint a Councillor for Equality to be responsible for preparing an annual ministerial gender mainstreaming plan.

Commonwealth ministers for women and gender affairs have adopted a new Plan of Action for Gender Equality.

The equality of opportunities for both men and women also concerns all stages of the DREAM Plan.

The National Action Plan for Employment constitutes the main tool for planning and implementing employment policies. One of the guidelines of the National Action Plan is gender equality.

The National Action Plan, which identified the activities and strategic measures for improving gender equality, had begun to yield results.

The Kosovo Action Plan for the Achievement of Gender Equality (endorsed by the Government) needs to be funded and implemented.

There was a need to work on both but especially on equality, given the weaknesses in the first plan that had become apparent, in matters like the culture of equality and participation in public life.

The National Action Plan for Gender Equality (2001 2006) of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality, Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization included measures and actions that aim to change the stereotyped roles of the sexes.

We encourage the measures, albeit still limited, that have been taken in promoting gender equality, including the filling of obvious gender gaps and the revisiting of legal issues, together with the development of an action plan for gender equality.

Gender equality needs to be integral to every discussion and plan there should be a gender audit for each process, international agreement and institutional mechanism.

This Plan of Action indicates how the target group's own responsibility for equality and integration can be enhanced and, where necessary, encouraged by central government.

The NGOs also had their share in development of State Action Plan on Gender Issues and other processes of development of policies and legislation promoting gender equality.

The National Action Plan for Equality 2001 2006 was implemented during the 2001 2004 period (up till March 2004, when the country underwent a change of Government).

The Gender Equality Unit set up under the National Development Plan was working with government departments to develop gender disaggregated performance indicators and data to monitor progress.

Yet equality before the law was not the same as equality in rights or gender equality.

The National Plan of Action states that equality between women and men is a matter of human rights and a condition for social justice and is also a necessary and fundamental pre requisite for equality, development and peace for the promotion of people centered sustainable development .

Greater equality reinforces the ambition for still more equality.

Vanuatu's action plan to implement the Education for All gender equality target by 2015 has been incorporated in legislation and a Gender Policy for the Education Department is being developed in 2004.
