An Office of Public Counsel for Victims will offer necessary legal assistance to victims.

In addition some 9,100 others of concern to the Office were resettled with UNHCR's assistance.

21. Recognizes that the Office of Staff Legal Assistance and the Ombudsman have two distinct functions

The Government had engaged in dialogue with the Office of the High Commissioner and worked with a team from that Office on a technical assistance programme.

UNODC also launched the preparatory assistance phase of its Iraq programme, opening a project office in Amman.

My office will continue to provide any advice and assistance as may be requested during this process.

Assistance is also being provided to the Professional Ethics Office, Crime Scene Office and Public Information Office of the national police and the immigration services, as well as in the areas of close protection, counter terrorism and explosive ordnance disposal.

Until that has been accomplished, the efforts of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance will be in vain.

Sweden has provided financial assistance for the development of an office on the status of disabled persons in South Africa.

The Office was requested to continue providing technical assistance in those areas, including by organizing workshops and facilitating information exchange.

The Office is committed to the provision of technical assistance to Member States in the area of criminal justice reform.

We pay special tribute to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for providing direct humanitarian assistance to victims and for launching an appeal for additional emergency humanitarian assistance.

28B.31 The resource requirements of 14,787,400 would provide for the continuation of 77 posts, general temporary assistance, overtime, travel of staff, contractual services, general operating expenses, office supplies and office automation equipment.

19. Decides to revert to the issue of the mandate of the Office of Staff Legal Assistance at its sixty third session

In Tajikistan, with assistance from the United Nations Tajikstan Office of Peacebuilding (UNTOP), the Government took further steps to consolidate the peace.

The Office has also helped Member States to implement international standards to combat money laundering and terrorist financing through direct technical assistance.

In that context, we support the Secretary General's proposal to create a rule of law assistance unit in the Peacebuilding Support Office.

(a) The Office of Legal Affairs should provide basic information on the legal aspects of the most frequent administrative actions needed to carry out United Nations programmes and on the assistance that the Office can offer.

In the area of security, the Office will continue to provide technical assistance to strengthen the capacity of the defence and security forces.

Following the training workshop, the non governmental organizations completed their project proposals with the assistance of an Office on Drugs and Crime consultant.

My Office has undertaken activities in these and other countries, responding to requests for assistance in establishing or strengthening national systems of protection.

13. Recalls paragraph 23 of its resolution 61 261, reiterates its support for the strengthening of professional legal assistance for staff in order for staff to continue to receive legal assistance, and decides to establish the Office of Staff Legal Assistance to succeed the Panel of Counsel

Lesotho stated that the office of the Attorney General would be the designated central authority with responsibility and power to receive requests for mutual legal assistance. Lithuania stated that the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General's Office under the Supreme Court would be designated the central authorities to receive requests for mutual legal assistance.

Several speakers emphasized that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) should provide assistance in that area to Member States, upon request.

On the basis of such arrangements, the United Nations has already rendered assistance to the Office of the Prosecutor on a number of occasions.

Mexico stated that the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic had been designated the central authority in matters of mutual legal assistance

We decide to strengthen the capacity of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to provide assistance to Member States in those tasks.

The Committee drew the State party's attention to the possibility of availing itself of the technical assistance offered under the advisory services and technical assistance programme of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Perhaps the Counter Terrorism Committee could restrict itself to identifying and assessing States' needs for technical assistance, while the task of providing and coordinating such assistance should be entrusted to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

Nonetheless, the country's security structure, including the Office of National Security and the provincial and district security committees, still requires further assistance in capacity building.

The Committee once again drew the State party's attention to the possibility of availing itself of the technical assistance offered under the advisory services and technical assistance programme of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The United Nations integrated office in Sierra Leone, which will have a military liaison cell, will also provide assistance, including limited logistical support, to the unit.
