Regardless of why conflicts are greater in times of economic adversity, how a society deals with them depends on the scope and quality of its conflict management institutions.

Being a regional economic organization BSEC is not directly involved in peace keeping or conflict management activities.

The Risk and Disaster Management Programme provides local government, communities and business organizations with practical strategies for mitigating and recovering from conflicts and natural disasters.

Virtually all civil wars and other violent conflicts in post colonial Africa have occurred because of the failure to manage properly the diversity that characterizes these countries.
