ILO Convention No. 105 concerning the Abolition of Forced Labour (1998)

(i) Forced and bonded labour

(b) To take immediate action to implement fully concrete legislative, executive and administrative measures to eradicate the practice of forced labour and to implement fully the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry established to examine the observance by Myanmar of the International Labour Organization Convention concerning Forced or Compulsory Labour (Convention No. 29)

Recalling also the International Labour Organization Convention concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour, 1999 (Convention No. 182), which prohibits forced or obligatory labour of all people under the age of 18,

Prohibition of slavery and forced labour.

Of those, 8.4 million are trapped in the worst forms of child labour as defined in ILO Convention No. 182, including some 5.7 million in forced and bonded labour.

In this connection, the Committee recommends that the State party consider ratifying ILO Convention No. 29 on forced or compulsory labour.

An ILO special action programme to combat forced labour is supporting Governments and social partners in their effort to document and eliminate forced labour.

(e) By adhering to internationally recognized labour standards and considering as a matter of priority joining the International Labour Organization and becoming a party to the International Labour Organization Convention concerning Forced or Compulsory Labour, 1930 (No. 29) and the Convention concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labour, 1999 (No. 182)

Forced labour would be removed from the statute books.

As for Canada's remarks concerning forced labour, Myanmar continued to cooperate with the International Labour Organization to eradicate forced labour and was striving to uphold the basic human rights of all its citizens.

Many were also victims of forced labour and barred from Government employment.

The Governments are realizing that it is time to end forced labour.

With regard to forced labour, Myanmar had already changed its legislation and had adopted administrative measures to monitor compliance with the laws against forced labour. It had drafted and signed an action plan in that regard in conjunction with the International Labour Organization.

Convention concerning Labour Statistics (No. 160).

In 1930, a League report confirmed the presence of slavery and forced labour.

Weekly Rest (Industry) Convention, 1921 is an International Labour Organization Convention.

It may also be a precursor to domestic violence, forced labour and sexual slavery.

Victims of forced labour were not liable to punishment for having violated immigration legislation.

(f) To continue its efforts with the International Labour Organization towards the effective implementation of the national mechanism established to receive complaints of forced labour

The Convention defines forced labour as all work or service which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which the said person has not offered himself voluntarily .

Convention No. 29 Trafficking in children. In its observation of 2004, the Committee primarily raised issues related to the trafficking of children for sexual exploitation and forced labour, including in the domestic service.

(iii) The abduction of women and children to be subjected to forced labour or similar conditions

The article also prohibits forced labour, with exceptions for criminal punishment, military service and civil obligations.

In Bolivia, a different study has also documented the existence of forced labour against indigenous people.

Auschwitz was a complex consisting of a concentration, extermination and forced labour camp and 39 subcamps.

However, there has also been a rise in forced migration, such as trafficking in women and girls for the purpose of exploitation, including prostitution and forced labour.

Prohibition of slavery or forced or compulsory labour (articles 3, 7, 8 and 24 of the Covenant)

In its direct request of 2003 the Committee recalled that the unqualified prohibition of forced or compulsory labour in section L6 of the Labour Code which does not include all work required in the public interest by legislative provisions on participation in development was inconsistent with the Convention.

Constitutional Framework Article 37 (g) of the Constitution enjoins the State to prevent prostitution Article 11 (2) states All forms of forced labour and traffic in human beings are prohibited. On 15 August 2001, Pakistan ratified ILO core Convention 182 on the Elimination of Worst forms of Child Labour.

There is an expressed need to link child labour to broader structural challenges facing indigenous and tribal peoples, such as forced labour, land rights, development planning and local governance.

The Committee is gravely concerned about the use of forced labour as a corrective measure, without charge, trial or review, under the Re education through Labour (laodong jiaoyang) programme.

He noted that the need for a labour force to pick cotton had prevented Uzbekistan from ratifying International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 182 on child labour.

Fear of piracy had forced them into the unfair partida system, a form of bonded labour. Others became beggars.
