Unfortunately, there is no central direction or even coordination of civilian efforts.

At the same time, certain central level competence and coordination functions should be maintained to provide ongoing strategic direction, monitoring, training and coordination of external funding.

The economy needs to be steered in the desired direction without triggering instability, making correct sequencing and coordination of policy measures essential.

We have followed with equal interest recent discussions on reinforcing United Nations leadership for specific sectors of humanitarian activity sectors that have historically suffered from ad hoc coordination and direction.

The additional resource requirements could not be absorbed from within the provisions included under section 1, Overall policymaking, direction and coordination, of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2006 2007.

We applaud the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for moving in that direction, and we welcome its measures to enhance the transparency of the distribution process for tsunami funds.

The multilateral surveillance mechanisms launched last year by the IMF are a step in the right direction, but only if they become part of an institutionalized multilateral mechanism of surveillance and policy coordination.

Many representatives expressed the view that the Bangkok Declaration was a crucial political document laying the foundation for and showing the direction in strengthening international coordination and cooperation efforts, in order to prevent and combat crime.

The Meeting had before it the draft report of the Secretary General on coordination of space related activities within the United Nations system direction and anticipated results for the period 2005 2006 (A AC.105 841).

The ethics office, like the Office of the Ombudsman, the Administrative Tribunal, the Board of Auditors and secretariat of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, would be under the budget section on programme budget, Overall policymaking, direction and coordination.

Programme B.1 Executive Direction and Management

This is not to say that a single economic policy should be imposed on everyone but Europe does need a higher degree of coordination and convergence to ensure that everyone is at least heading in the same direction.

Should the General Assembly adopt draft resolution A 59 L.69 Rev.1, additional resources amounting to 116,300 would be required under section 1, Overall policymaking, direction and coordination, of the programme budget for the biennium 2004 2005.

In accordance with General Assembly resolution 59 283, the resources of the Administrative Tribunal will be transferred from section 8, Legal affairs, to section 1, Overall policymaking, direction and coordination, of the budget as at 1 January 2006.
