SUPPORT TO THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS (During the reporting period, implementation continued on the following projects)

Women who run their own businesses (hereafter women entrepreneurs ) are mainly employed in small scale production, in both rural and urban areas.

This is one of the major projects in the 2005 2007 work programme.

So, rather than focusing on the supposed shortage of entrepreneurs, consider for a moment the very real shortage of qualified people willing to work for them.

Gender mainstreaming has been introduced recently, mostly at project level and without adequate regulations, experience and resources.

As said before, consolidating small individual projects within thematic and divisional programmes would streamline the substantive work and enhance the delivery of assistance provided by UNCTAD.

Accordingly, we support the national and regional projects on literacy methods which have an impact on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals and of the objectives of the International Plan of Action for the United Nations Literacy Decade.
