While large scale organized violence has substantially diminished, civilians continue to be subject to lawlessness and banditry, and women and girls continue to be raped.

We remain concerned at continued reports of violence against women and girls and of trafficking in women and children, and we welcome the efforts of the Afghan authorities to address that issue.

We are also concerned by the continued construction of settlements in the occupied territories.

We are concerned at the increasingly skewed institutional balance within the Organization.

We remain concerned, however, by the slow and uneven implementation of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals, and reaffirm our commitment to eradicate poverty and promote sustained economic growth, sustainable development and global prosperity for all.

What Communism Still Teaches Us

Part of our reluctance is that we are still uncomfortable with machines making decisions yet there are already too many decisions for us to make ourselves.

These are early days in the quantitative study of sustainable development.

We still strongly believe that verification is technically feasible and politically desirable.
