At present, Roma children go to school only sporadically.

To break the negative stereotypes, Roma children must be educated to celebrate and take pride in their Roma heritage.

For example, Roma children are often automatically put into classes for the mentally disabled, simply because they are Roma.

Evidence before the Court indicates that, in some Czech communities, Roma children are 27 times more likely to be sent to special schools than non Roma children.

All told, Roma children in Ostrava are more than 27 times more likely than non Roma to be placed in such schools.

In the most extreme cases, the education system itself is segregated isolated schools in remote camps special classes for Roma children in mainstream schools and an over representation of Roma children in classes for children with learning difficulties.

Of paramount importance had been the establishment of the inter municipal Roma network, comprising all municipalities within the Roma administrative domain.

The programs developed by the REF ought to be scaled up by governments, with the help of the EU, and made available to all Roma children in Europe.

Therefore, there are no official data on the number of Roma children that attend school, and thus, it is not possible to give a gender estimation regarding this.
