The Advisory Group is instrumental in linking up the Economic and Social Council and the Security Council in areas of common concern related to peace and development.

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee serves in an expert advisory capacity to the General Assembly.

The Economic and Social Council has already contributed to linking the issues of security and development by establishing the Ad Hoc Advisory Groups on Guinea Bissau and Burundi.
