Migration related issues (remittances)

Since its inception in 2006, the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) has provided a much needed platform for dialogue among states and other stakeholders on issues related to migration and development.

The priority areas of its research programme concerned migration related issues such as remittances, information and communication technologies and women's empowerment, gender, peace and security issues and women's political participation.

They related to various identity and migration issues, and involved institutions including the City University of New York (CUNY), the Universities of South Florida and Gainesville.

Annual work programmes in 2004 and 2005 have identified specific issues for research including financing for development ICT and women's empowerment migration related issues (remittances) security and gender and governance and women's political participation.
