Noting the importance of the ongoing work of the Working Group on climate change and disaster risk reduction, established by the Inter Agency Task Force for Disaster Reduction,

The secretariat of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction is coordinating strategic guidelines to support national and regional efforts through the Inter Agency Task Force on Disaster Reduction.

New developments include partnerships in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to promote disaster risk reduction and to design subregional common policies on disaster risk reduction.

Member States should implement the priorities set out in the Hyogo Framework for Action in support of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction and, in particular, incorporate practical disaster reduction steps into sustainable development and poverty reduction strategies, as well as in disaster preparedness and response.

Disaster reduction posed a challenge to all countries, especially developing countries, and the international community needed to build capacities for risk reduction, adaptation, early warning and post disaster reconstruction.
