We also acknowledge the important contributions and roles of the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States, the Economic Community of Central African States, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the Southern African Development Community.

The African Union, the Southern African Development Community and the Economic Community of West African States have made commitments to support the sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation (SMART).

The Economic Community of West African States and the East African Community have eased trans border movements of people by issuing regional passports.

East African Community (General Assembly resolution 58 86)

The international community branded each of these countries a pariah, and various international organizations, such as the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, and the Southern African Development Community, have responded by suspending membership and occasionally imposing sanctions.

The African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and the Economic Community of Central African States have all shouldered peace and security responsibilities that in past decades would have passed automatically to extraregional entities.

We call for closer collaboration between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations such as the African Union, the Southern African Development Community and the Economic Community of West African States, to mention but a few.

BONUCA will continue to work closely with subregional partners, including the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, the Economic Community of Central African States and the CEMAC Multinational Force.

Partnerships in this area need to be enhanced with the African Union and all regional mechanisms, such as the East African Community, the Economic Community of West African States and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.

Economic Community of Central African States (General Assembly resolution 55 161)

The international community must support African efforts to increase agricultural productivity.

At the subregional level, the Office will increase its cooperation, particularly with the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the Economic Community of Central African States and the Multinational Force of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (FOMUC) in the fields of security, early warning and prevention.

Regional blocs like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), and the East African Community (EAC) will eventually assume larger roles in helping resolve the continent s most intractable diplomatic and economic problems.

It also enjoys the support of the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union and the United Nations.

The United Nations partnerships with the African Union and such African subregional organizations as the Economic Community of West African States, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the Southern Africa Development Community have been quite exemplary in the areas of peacemaking and peacekeeping.

The West African subregion, through its regional organization the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) promptly deployed a peacekeeping force with the full political backing of the African Union.

The Council will have to work in close cooperation with South Africa, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States.

For us, this means working closely with our neighbors in the East African Community.

On the African continent, we have financially supported the implementation of the moratorium of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) since 1999.

Black Africa, particularly the East African Community, cannot think of any solution other than secession.

Within the East African Community one of the main areas of cooperation was transport infrastructure.
