The Economic Community of West African States and the East African Community have eased trans border movements of people by issuing regional passports.

The African Union, the Southern African Development Community and the Economic Community of West African States have made commitments to support the sustainable modernization of agriculture and rural transformation (SMART).

Regional entities such as the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and the Southern African Development Community, can facilitate the regional stability that supports country level transition.

The international community branded each of these countries a pariah, and various international organizations, such as the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, and the Southern African Development Community, have responded by suspending membership and occasionally imposing sanctions.

B. Implementation of the Treaty establishing the African Economic Community

1. The European Union and the Southern African Development Community,

Peace related efforts by the Economic Community of West African States, the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, the Southern Africa Development Community and the Inter Governmental Authority on Development also deserve commendation.

The African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and the Economic Community of Central African States have all shouldered peace and security responsibilities that in past decades would have passed automatically to extraregional entities.

The international community must support African efforts to increase agricultural productivity.

2. Regional cooperation integration Support to creation of African Economic Community

26. Establishment of the African Economic Community. Under this US 2.5 million programme, UNDP assisted OAU in drafting the Treaty and subsequent protocols of the African Economic Community.

We call for closer collaboration between the United Nations and regional and subregional organizations such as the African Union, the Southern African Development Community and the Economic Community of West African States, to mention but a few.

BONUCA will continue to work closely with subregional partners, including the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, the Economic Community of Central African States and the CEMAC Multinational Force.

Partnerships in this area need to be enhanced with the African Union and all regional mechanisms, such as the East African Community, the Economic Community of West African States and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.

African development is perhaps the single greatest challenge facing the international community.

It also enjoys the support of the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union and the United Nations.

At the subregional level, the Office will increase its cooperation, particularly with the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the Economic Community of Central African States and the Multinational Force of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (FOMUC) in the fields of security, early warning and prevention.

Regional blocs like the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), and the East African Community (EAC) will eventually assume larger roles in helping resolve the continent s most intractable diplomatic and economic problems.

Today, the African community in our country is in an uproar over this.

ECA supports the implementation of the Abuja Treaty establishing the African Economic Community.

The United Nations partnerships with the African Union and such African subregional organizations as the Economic Community of West African States, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the Southern Africa Development Community have been quite exemplary in the areas of peacemaking and peacekeeping.
