The incumbent of this post also provides help desk assistance, and reports to the Computer Information Systems Officer.

Paragraph 6 of the GEF Instrument provides that the GEF shall function under the guidance, and be accountable to, the Conferences of the Parties which shall decide on policies, program priorities and eligibility criteria for the purposes of the conventions. The GEF Office of Monitoring and Evaluation (M E Office) is an independent office that reports directly to the GEF Council.

Assistance to Afghanistan has also been provided to help in the establishment of a drug testing facility at Kabul, including provision of equipment and materials, and recruitment and training of laboratory scientists.

Perhaps the Counter Terrorism Committee could restrict itself to identifying and assessing States' needs for technical assistance, while the task of providing and coordinating such assistance should be entrusted to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

After an independent evaluation of the Global Mechanism concluded that it had not been successful in mobilizing new sources of technical assistance funding, the Desertification Convention COP decided to accept the GEF as a financial mechanism of the Convention and to commence arrangements to establish a working relationship with the GEF.

The provisional timetable for meetings of the Council Forum, as proposed by the Executive Director of UNEP in consultation with the Bureau of the Governing Council and the Committee of Permanent Representatives to UNEP, is contained in the annex to the present document.

13. Recalls paragraph 23 of its resolution 61 261, reiterates its support for the strengthening of professional legal assistance for staff in order for staff to continue to receive legal assistance, and decides to establish the Office of Staff Legal Assistance to succeed the Panel of Counsel

Consulting services now include project management, UNIX administration in Geneva, system administration in New York and help desk services.
