Sri Lanka has consistently supported the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and their right to an independent sovereign State based on Security Council resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), 1397 (2002) and 1515 (2003), and other relevant resolutions.

Ms. Gunasekera (Sri Lanka) noted that Sri Lanka had pledged to meet the Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

The Government was already working on some of the problems pointed to by the meeting.

Ms. Sri Murningingtyas (Indonesia) chaired the meeting.

The Resident Representative of UNDP in Sri Lanka shared his experience on the Invest in Peace initiative in Sri Lanka, a strategy that focused on revitalizing private investment to promote peace building.

Sri Lanka's concern was how to ensure that that was done fairly and harmoniously, to improve the quality of life for all.

The effect of armed conflict on the girl child has been a grave concern in Sri Lanka for some time.

Sri Lanka expected that there would be a significant change on the ground with the Security Council focussing its attention on the issue.

Sri Lanka was focusing on primary and secondary education, without overlooking other types of education.

The fellowship programmes are conducted on an annual basis and participation is competition based.

Furthermore, it gives minorities the opportunity to share their thoughts and opinions anonymously.
