The question of production is given ample coverage by organizations which are active specifically in the areas of agriculture, the promotion of food security and poverty reduction.

To ensure food security for all, we will have to increase not just food production, but also availability, especially for those living in developing countries.

The expanding hunger crisis reflects a lethal combination of growing rural populations and inadequate food yields.

Meanwhile, rich countries agricultural subsidies and tariffs have undoubtedly undermined food production in developing countries.

But public private partnerships must be backed up with the right policies and support for rural communities, so that poor rural people can increase food production, improve their lives, and contribute to greater food security for all.

In the short term, links between trade expansion and poverty reduction work through prices, returns to factors of production, availability of public goods and food security.

Softwood is the source of about 80 of the world's production of timber, with traditional centres of production being the Baltic region (including Scandinavia and Russia), North America and China.

Small wonder, then, that production, sales, and consumer and business confidence are falling throughout the euro zone.

The initiative further aimed to reduce poverty through community reconstruction, increase food production, fight environmental degradation and improve basic social services and living standards. The problem is that, having neglected food security and the productive sectors of their economies for several decades, many developing countries governments now lack the fiscal capacity to increase public spending in order to increase food production and agricultural productivity.

Instead, some food security advocates have called for rich countries to compensate for the adverse consequences of their own agricultural subsidies and protectionism by providing additional foreign aid to the developing world, targeting production efforts that enhance food security.

But the same economic stimuli that underpin higher food output also lead to supply problems, a decline in living standards, and massive social strains, especially in urban centers.

Not only will food yields rise in the short term, but farm households will use their higher incomes and better health to accumulate all sorts of assets cash balances, soil nutrients, farm animals, and their children s health and education.

At the same time, it pointed to the need to increase food production to feed the extra two billion people expected to be alive in 2050, and suggested that more investment in agriculture in developing countries is required to improve productivity.

Brazil, Russia, and China, but also Algeria, Egypt, and South Africa indeed, all African countries that have maintained functioning governments have seen dramatic increases in food production over the past decade.

Food loss on farms, during processing, transport, and at markets undermines food security in most developing countries, where post harvest losses can reach as high as 40 of production.

Investment in the rural economy was a strategic choice with a multiplier effect on production, farm income and food security, as well as economic growth and human development however, such a strategy required the necessary financial resources and guaranteed market access.

This is a sizeable commitment, but it may not be enough more needs to be done to increase agricultural production, to free up the potential of trade to address food insecurity, and to deal with the increasing impact of climate change on agriculture.
