Wrap up discussion on the work of the Security Council for the current month

My hope is that that discussion will draw upon the richness of the debate we have had today and that, over the course of next week, we can move to finalize and adopt a text.

I should like to make two final and general points, which also surfaced during our debate.

Over the next few days, I will reflect carefully on the points made during the debate.

My delegation will elaborate on these ideas in the course of the general debate that will shortly take place in the General Assembly.

The representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran responded to points raised during the discussion.

Options proposed during the debate included holding the forum during the high level segment or for the high level segment to be replaced by the forum.

All secondary colour coded access cards will be valid only for the duration of the High level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly, possibly during the general debate.

The Chief of the Science and Technology Section of UNCTAD responded to points raised during the discussion.

The conclusions of the Panel will, during the course of 2005, serve to focus the debate on the appropriate next steps forward. The Eleventh Congress stands at a critical juncture between the establishment of a global legal framework and the requirement for its effective implementation and operation.

That reflects the great importance of this debate importance clearly shown by the strong participation in it.

Facilities on the second and third floors of the General Assembly Building will also be available for the general debate period.

The present report focuses on key elements of discussion during the thirteenth Workshop.

First, we are very grateful indeed for the many expressions of support through this long debate.

Much of this debate can be viewed through the lens of American involvement with Iraq.

(b) A summary of discussions by the co chairpersons of issues and ideas raised during the plenary sessions and discussion panels

I simply wanted to ask a question with regard to the time that will be allowed for delegations to make their national interventions during the general debate.

However, allow me to list some key points that I think have emerged from this important debate.

During the debate, senators from the treasury benches described the custom as anything but honourable. Punjab had the highest number of 'karo kari' incidents followed by Sindh, the NWFP and Balochistan.

My delegation also looks forward to further discussion during this session of the General Assembly on how to strengthen the work of the United Nations.

During the discussion on the prevention of genocide, the Special Rapporteur stressed the importance of achieving intellectual and cultural agreement on the need to prevent genocide.

Students in China, India, Kenya, Romania, Sweden, the Philippines and the United Kingdom were also able to join through webcast and discussion boards.

Discussion

A debate on immigration is beginning in the United States Senate, which will take up several proposals.

It had cooperated with the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, taking part in its annual meetings and hosting panels during those meetings.

The agenda must be set through close cooperation between the informal group and the secretariat, in order to guarantee that the discussion would proceed in a satisfactory manner.

Following the discussions, the Working Group held some informal consultations on how to address some of the concerns expressed during the debate.

On 22 September 2005, during the general debate, our Secretary of the General People's Committee for Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation said

During the ensuing discussion, a number of concerns were voiced about the productivity of the eighteen subsidiary bodies and about their relationship to the Council.

The debate over the past three years, however, has highlighted key differences between States as regards therapeutic cloning and embryo research.

Further extensive debate has been going on for the past seven months within the United Nations, as well as outside the Organization in academic and political circles.
