The treaty was written in 2008 and was to come into force 30 days after the date of receipt of the ninth instrument of ratification.

The most significant intergovernmental undertaking in this area to date is the Convention on Cybercrime of the Council of Europe, which is open for ratification by non European countries.

After the entry into force of this Amendment, as provided under paragraph 1, it shall enter into force for any other Party to the Protocol on the ninetieth day following the date of deposit of its instrument of ratification, acceptance or approval.

The treaty was ratifyed by the Emperor of Brazil on August 24, 1825, and by the King of Portugal on November 15, 1825, and on that same date the two instruments of ratification were exchanged between Brazilian and Portuguese diplomats in Lisbon.

We welcome and support the signature and ratification by the nuclear weapon States of the relevant protocols of nuclear weapon free zones and look forward to the entry into force of the African Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty at an early date.
