8. Encourages relevant United Nations organizations to strengthen the coordination and collaboration between development and humanitarian entities, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in integrating disaster risk reduction into their activities

Our national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which under domestic and international law are auxiliaries to the public authorities, stand ready to work with United Nations Member Governments to bring action forward on this vital issue.

During the last five years, more than 30 of our Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in Africa provided social mobilization support to polio National Immunization Days, with approximately 1 million Swiss francs annually per each National Society.

The point was stressed on 11 January by Mr. Jan Egeland, who spoke of the crucial role of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as the first line of defence against suffering and disease in disaster situations.

The Hong Kong Red Cross () is the national Red Cross society of Hong Kong as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The United Nations, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and well established non governmental organizations, has both the mandate and the expertise to ensure an effective and needs based response to this dramatic crisis.

5. Invites Member States, the United Nations system, international financial institutions, regional bodies and other international organizations, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as well as relevant civil society organizations, to support, implement and follow up the Hyogo Framework for Action

Within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, it is the ICRC's role to coordinate humanitarian operations in situations of armed conflict.

Kenya Red Cross is one of the many international Red Cross societies around the world.

Yet the Red Crescent and other relief agencies have been unable to relieve Falluja s civilian population.

That was agreed upon by all member States of the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in December 2003 in Geneva.

I will simply note that it shows that thousands of Red Cross Red Crescent volunteers, staff and emergency response units are achieving a great deal.
