Under the British Nationality Act of 1981, British Overseas Territories citizens from Gibraltar are, upon application, entitled to be registered as British citizens.

In January 1983, when the British Nationality Act came into force, St. Helenians had their citizenship rights taken away.

1.1.9 The Nationality Code

In the Constitutional law on citizenship, Chapter IV Nationality of children, nationality of parents, tutors and guardians and nationality of incompetent persons notes that the nationality of children under the age of 14 is the same as that of the parents.

Furthermore, under article 22, a child born of a mother with nationality of the Niger and of a foreign father could opt for Niger nationality, whereas a child born of a father with nationality of the Niger automatically had Niger nationality.
