Its current role is limited to administration and financial management.

Executive Direction and Management (EDM) comprises the functions and staff of the Executive Secretary, who has the responsibility for the overall management of the secretariat, for providing guidance on strategic issues and for high level representation.

The role of the Executive Directorate will be a critical component of this work.

Successive General Assembly resolutions and Executive Board decisions have expanded the role of UNIFEM.

They underlined the important role of regional fisheries management organizations and arrangements.
