Article 6 of Law No. 149 (Nationality Act of 1992) provides that Nicaraguans, whether male or female, who are married to aliens shall retain their nationality even if they acquire the nationality of their spouse in accordance with the law of the spouse's country, provided that they do not expressly renounce their Nicaraguan nationality.

However, internationally recruited staff residing or serving in the country of their nationality are not eligible for expatriate benefits.
