Our deliberations are based on a number of helpful papers from the Secretary General, including the report of his Advisory Panel on International Support for NEPAD (see A 60 85).

We share the views expressed by the Advisory Panel with respect to the growing consensus of what needs to be done in Africa and the priority areas identified for implementation.

The Board notes that the implementation of the above mentioned control was a decision taken by the trilateral advisory panel which is made up of representatives of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS.

Through a variety of initiatives, India has consistently endeavoured to be a friend and partner of Africa in its developmental efforts in many of the areas identified by the Advisory Panel.

The GoE took note of the work done in the context of synergism among multilateral environmental agreements, especially the workshop in Espoo, Finland, and the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) interlinkages report.

The Advisory Committee recalls that, out of three such posts requested, one was provided in 2001 in the context of the proposals made in the report of the Panel on United Nations Peace Operations.

The recommendation for the selection of staff against these positions will be subject to the review of the OHCHR internal Advisory Panel on Personnel Issues (APPI) to ensure a fair and transparent staff selection mechanism.

Lastly, the EU looked forward to the issuing of the consolidated set of guidelines aimed at facilitating the management of technical cooperation, which were to be drawn up by the Advisory Panel on Programme Approval Committees.
