A list of designated national authorities will be made available to the Conference in document UNEP FAO RC COP.2 INF 2.

At the same time, relevant information materials in the resource kit, including the guidance document for designated national authorities, will be updated to reflect the importance of information flow between designated national authorities and customs officials.

A further letter is sent to welcome all designated national authorities, reminding them of their obligations under the Convention and the status of implementation in their country.

The requested information was made available to the designated national authority.

The list of designated national authorities is circulated with the PIC Circular every six months, with a request that the information be checked and changes reported to the secretariat.

It has been brought to the attention of the secretariat that a number of designated national authorities have experienced difficulties in contacting other such authorities because the addresses that they used were not correct.

The secretariat has therefore written to all designated national authorities requesting them to confirm that their contact details were correct and to provide an e mail address or fax number if they had not already done so.

As at 30 April 2005, there were 90 Parties to the Rotterdam Convention, which had designated a total of 143 national authorities.

Under article 4, paragraph 3, of the Convention, each Party was obliged, no later than the day of entry into force of the Convention for it, to notify the name and address of its designated national authority or authorities to the secretariat.

It was noted with concern, however, that no proposals for the inclusion of severely hazardous pesticide formulations had been submitted during the reporting period. One representative encouraged the secretariat to facilitate the use of that provision by designated national authorities.
