Of the requested 499 posts and temporary positions, a total of 452 posts and temporary positions would be deployed to the field.

According to a 2015 report, there was a shortage of 1.2 million teachers and almost half a million teaching posts were simply vacant.

Pending submission of the Mission's revised 2004 05 budget to the General Assembly, the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions, in a letter from its Chairman dated 8 December 2004 addressed to the Secretary General, concurred in the Controller's request to enter into commitments for MONUC in the amount not exceeding 49,950,000 in order to meet the immediate additional logistical and military personnel requirements of the Mission.

As shown in the table below, of a total of the proposed 993 additional posts and temporary positions, 766 (70 per cent) would be deployed in the east of the country.

In this connection, it notes that of the two posts assigned to UNMISET, the P 4 post is being abolished and the General Service post is being redeployed to MONUC.

Actions to be taken by the General Assembly

The 347 proposed temporary staff positions comprise 73 international staff and 274 national staff positions, inclusive of 15 national officers.

(c) Assessment of the amount of 84,296,400 at a monthly rate of 28,098,800, should the Security Council decide to continue the mandate of the Mission beyond 31 March 2005.
