In response, the group, supported by the secretariat, developed and conducted a survey among LDC focal points at SBI 22, inquiring about expected technical and financial difficulties with regards to implementation.

These issues are also central to strategies to scale up the use of alternative interventions, and this is further discussed under Section 5.2.1.

In its decision 49 101, the Commission agreed to continue discussing its working methods at its fiftieth session in 2006.

The Subcommittee agreed that it was necessary to continue discussing the issue and that it should remain on the agenda of the Subcommittee.

Some members expressed a desire for the debate on the section of the report dealing with the compatibility of reservations with the object and purpose of the treaty to be continued during the fifty eighth session.

While there has been discussion on the need to further develop and operationalize the national plan of action to prevent the recruitment of child soldiers, cooperation on this issue has yet to be seen.

I have initiated discussion on this critical subject with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Alpha Oumar Konaré, which my Special Representative is continuing.

For the Group of 77 and China, the discussion this morning is a necessary continuation of the focus this year on the special needs of Africa.

Other observers for States stressed the importance of continuing to discuss issues already dealt with by the mechanism so as to stress their importance and the need for action to be taken at the national level.

The expertise of the Sub Commission should remain involved in this debate.

In that regard, it is essential to further revitalize the General Assembly.

In order to reverse this trend, a third discussion, one that engages the international community, is needed.
