The world is struggling to fight climate change, sustain a growing global population, and find decent jobs for millions of young people.

The revised budget provides for the deployment of additional 5,674 military contingent personnel, 86 civilian police personnel, 190 international staff, 393 national staff, including 11 national officers, and 115 United Nations Volunteers for a total revised strength of 760 military observers, 15,714 military contingent personnel, 268 civilian police officers, 1,162 international staff, 1,747 national staff, including 36 national officers, and 605 United Nations Volunteers.

The computation of national staff costs is based on the G 3 step IV and NOA I of the national salary scale in effect from 1 May 2004 for national General Service staff and national officers, respectively, reflecting the actual pattern of expenditures during the 2004 05 period and distribution of national staff by grade level.

All of this is needed to enable the Fund to support the global coordination functions for which it is uniquely well equipped.

Mr. Kozaki (Japan) said that his delegation had supported the suspension in the hope of streamlining administrative processes and shifting resources from support functions to substantive activities.
