Second, Obama has attacked the outsourcing of service jobs to places like India and the offshoring of manufacturing jobs to Asia as a whole.

Growth in high end services employment is matched by contraction in high employment components of manufacturing supply chains.

Yet there is not a shred of evidence to support bipartisan claims that this ongoing carnage is the result of outsourcing US manufacturing jobs to China.

The key point is not that manufacturing jobs are somehow better, but rather that we must consider the asymmetry in the structural adjustment process.
