If the designated operational entity determines that the project activity intends to use a new baseline or monitoring methodology, as referred to in paragraph 37 (e) (ii) above, it shall, prior to a submission for registration of this project activity, forward the proposed methodology, together with the draft project design document, including a description of the project and identification of the project participants, to the Executive Board for review.

Recognizing the contributions of new and renewable sources of energy to the reduction of greenhouse gases and addressing climate change, which poses serious risks and challenges,

The most important industry in terms of emissions is cement manufacture.

In Australia, a programme called Greenhouse Friendly provides businesses with an opportunity to market greenhouse neutral products or services, deliver greenhouse gas abatement and give Australian consumers greater purchasing choices.

(b) For facilities that do not have an operating history of at least three years between the beginning of 2000 and the end of 2004, new HCFC 22 facilities refers to the total production of HCFC 22 at the facility

In a related development, the European Union Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading Scheme goes into effect on 1 January 2005.

To be eligible for accreditation under the Greenhouse Friendly programme, abatement projects must generate permanent, verifiable greenhouse gas emission reductions, avoidances or sequestration.

Instead, the land use change and forestry sector is the biggest source of emissions (more than half of total GHG emissions in 1994), mainly due to desertification.

These other emissions are estimated based on the estimated percentage of these emissions relative to total emissions at previous meetings.

About a third of reporting Parties also reported on measures to abate GHG emissions in the agriculture and waste sectors.

The SBI noted that such documents should also include additional information on net' GHG emissions.

Sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by the LUCF sector in most Parties offset the GHG emissions originating from this sector.

Greenhouse gases

Human impact threatens many species, with greater threats expected as a result of climate change induced by greenhouse gas emissions.

Greenhouse gas emissions from transport are increasing at a faster rate than any other energy using sector.

Following the negotiations culminating in the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol, the Government of Quebec had initiated a plan of action for the period 2000 2002, aiming to further reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to level out the upward curve of emissions relating to the transport sector.

One global consequence of the loss of forest cover is its impact on greenhouse gas emission, with land use change (primarily deforestation) accounting for 20 per cent of man made greenhouse gas emissions.4 The Kyoto Protocol, which entered into force on 16 February 2005, establishes a number of flexible implementation measures two of those, Joint Implementation and the Clean Development Mechanism, may include afforestation projects.

There are also some contexts, however, that can require trade offs between efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and emissions of conventional air pollutants.

Introduction Responding to the increasing challenge of climate change, several United Nations bodies and international and national organizations are starting to estimate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated from their meetings and office operations and to take steps to control and compensate for them.

The experience of WSSD shows that sponsors, delegations and IGOs are likely to be the main contributors to an offsetting scheme. The funds needed to offset the GHG emissions of COP and subsidiary body sessions depend on the carbon price that is used.

It presents, for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), a method for estimating the GHG emissions generated from these sessions and proposes options and approaches for offsetting them.

The compilation of more reliable and sufficient data for adequate evaluation of the effects of GHG emissions in the national context continues to be an urgent need.

As a result of the subsector's direct influence on human health and well being, measures that address transport emissions are often desirable from an environmental sustainability perspective, and also lead to lower GHG emissions.

Background At COP 9, the Kyoto Club, an Italian non governmental organization (NGO), volunteered to estimate and offset the GHG emissions of the session.

Estimating greenhouse gas emissions of the twentieth sessions of the subsidiary bodies and the tenth session of the Conference of the Parties A prototype tool, developed by the secretariat, was used to estimate the GHG emissions of the twentieth sessions of the subsidiary bodies and the tenth session of the Conference of the Parties.

Several vehicles for offsetting GHG emissions exist such as purchasing emission credits from stand alone projects, from a carbon fund, or from an emission trading scheme.

The SBI observed that total GHG emissions from Annex I Parties as a whole remained relatively stable between 2000 and 2002.
