The Code contains provisions which make it illegal to subject an accused person to torture or assault.

Being also particularly concerned about the trade in goods used in torture, the European Union had adopted a Regulation prohibiting such trade and urged other States to introduce similar legislation.

He fully supports the statement of the High Commissioner, in which she expressed her concerns about the erosion of the prohibition of torture in the context of counter terrorism, particularly the trend of seeking diplomatic assurances and the use of secret places of detention.
