B. Overarching objectives

INSTRAW stated that in accordance with its strategic framework of 2004 2007, the research activities in strategic areas include the following comprehensive outputs (a) gender frameworks (b) concept papers and (c) case studies.

The SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan recognizes statistics as one of the cross sectoral areas that need to be strengthened to foster regional cooperation and integration over the next 15 years.

Awareness of the need to address and measure progress on many issues on a global basis has prompted the development in recent years of a set of global strategic objectives which are reviewed and adjusted annually.

The members shared a strong sense of optimism and urged the Secretary General and the Special Representative to stay the course and to keep pace in carrying out the comprehensive international strategy for concrete results, with the Security Council remaining in the lead.

Following the mid term review of the MTSP, UNICEF has taken a more flexible approach which gives greater emphasis to individual sectoral and cross sectoral policies which help to create a supportive environment for young children.
