The Peacebuilding Commission, when set up, will help to ensure effective peacebuilding and sustainable peace, and, over the long run, it will save tremendous costs in peacekeeping operations.

Now, the creation of the Peacebuilding Commission provides us with a unique opportunity to ensure the involvement of women in United Nations led peacebuilding processes.

Considering the importance and effectiveness of confidence building measures taken at the initiative and with the participation of all States concerned and taking into account the specific characteristics of each region, since such measures can contribute to regional stability and to international peace and security,
