It should be noted that the programmes of work of the Main Committees, with the exception of the Fifth Committee, have been approved by the respective Committees. The programme of work of the plenary as well as the Main Committees contained herein are for consideration by Member States.

The following is a synopsis of the main issues discussed in the meeting of the Chairpersons

I congratulate the Chairmen of the Main Committees of the General Assembly for its sixtieth session on their election.

How can I find out the programme of work of the respective Main Committees?

On 13 June 2005, the six Main Committees elected their respective officers for the sixtieth session.

In past years, the Fifth Committee usually awaited the completion of the work of the other Main Committees.

It has recommended that the Main Committees complete their work before 2 December 1994.

It was considered vitally important that the regional commissions be included in any approach by the functional commissions to supporting the Economic and Social Council's action plans and major events.

The committees were designed to institutionalize the exchange of information and coordination among key agencies responsible for natural resource management and climate change.

Pursuant to resolution 58 316 and in order to facilitate the work of the Main Committees, the General Assembly decided to allocate item 116 to all the Main Committees for the sole purpose of considering and taking action on their respective tentative programmes of work.
