He would like to know the composition of the people's committees, whether they included women, and whether the people's committees were familiar with the Convention.

Effective linkages among the regional commissions and between the commissions and other partners

The Chairmen of the three committees have held informal meetings in order to find new areas of cooperation and coordination among the Committees.

It was recommended that more frequent joint meetings of the Bureaux and secretariats of the functional commissions be held so that detailed information regarding the work of the commissions could be exchanged.

The inter committee meeting reaffirmed its earlier recommendation that each committee should adopt the practice of producing a list of issues and questions.

Invite Arab national human rights committees to join regional federations of national human rights committees.

Most commissions had established a multi year work programme, which the Chairpersons considered to be a valuable planning tool.

The Convention secretariat could assist by preparing guidelines for committee establishment, with suggestions on their composition and work.

The fourth inter committee meeting decided that the Chairperson of the current inter committee meeting should report on the implementation of its recommendations at the beginning of the next inter committee meeting, before the election of the Chairperson of that meeting.

After considerable delays, a number of key Comprehensive Peace Agreement commissions were established and staffed, and some of the specific legislation required to create the remaining commissions was adopted.

It was considered vitally important that the regional commissions be included in any approach by the functional commissions to supporting the Economic and Social Council's action plans and major events.

All of the Chairpersons agreed that this type of meeting was very useful because it provided a broad picture of the work being carried out by the functional commissions.

National committees and other arrangements

The Committee's experts will work closely with the experts of the other committees, making every effort to maximize synergies among the experts of all the committees.

This is an effective arrangement that could be replicated by the other regional commissions.

To that end, there are established arrangements through the Committee structure.

The Committees' members are from the Prison Service and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

We thank them for their great efforts to facilitate the work of the three committees.

The Forum encourages national committees for the Decade, where those exist, to invite members of the Forum to participate in the activities of these committees.

The objective of the national committees will be to prepare, implement and follow up relevant year activities in their countries. The way in which the committees operate will be decided at the country level.

The resource mobilization objectives of the national committees, established through the joint strategic planning process, are to maximize their contribution to UNICEF programmes.

Out of 100 municipal committees, 4 presidents are women (4 ).
