Another challenge in any peacebuilding process lies in the area of democratization and good governance.

The broader commitments to democracy, human rights and good governance must also be discharged.

It should also be noted that it is the lack of democracy and good governance that leads to terrorism.

The Liberian people had begun the process of establishing democracy, accountability, good governance, respect for human rights and popular participation.

We also fully support the decision to establish a democracy fund to promote democratic practice and good governance as the surest guarantor of human rights.

And all of these conflicts are compounded by power games and bad or less than democratic governance.

V. Human rights, democracy and good governance

We feel that there is an urgent need to activate the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in order to help Africa to strengthen democracy, good governance and respect for human rights, and Egypt has therefore made a voluntary contribution of 1 million to the APRM Trust Fund, in addition to its regular annual contribution of 100,000.
