The sScience and ttechnology programme provides substantive support to the Committee on Science and Technology (Committee on Science and Technology (CST)) and its Group of Experts (GoE).

In particular, the Round Table will provide advice and guidance in matters relating to the Affirmative Action Policy and its application, initiatives and tools to support the Diversity Initiative, templates and methodologies that will assist Government to implement affirmative action plans, and employment system reviews.

During the last sessions of the COPs to both conventions, the secretariats of the CBD and the UNCCD organized side events on joint work programmes.

The signatories agreed to conserve biological diversity, by saving species and their habitats, and to use biological resources (e.g., forests) in a sustainable manner.

Effective consultation and mutual cooperation should be promoted under the national action programmes (NAPs) (UNCCD), National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) (CBD) and national adaptation programmes of action (NAPAs) (UNFCCC).

During 2005 the two secretariats have collaborated on work programme elements relating to the status and trends of biodiversity in dry and sub humid lands and the development of criteria and indicators for specific areas of value.
