The UNDP Water Governance Programme and the World Bank's Water and Sanitation Programme are working together to develop rural and urban initiatives in water supply and sanitation.

These networks discuss problems hampering effective delivery of services with government representatives and then produce joint workable solutions in areas such as water supply, sanitation, schools, power supply and urban transport.

In Africa, UNICEF will coordinate its efforts closely with the African Development Bank in support of the Bank's Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Initiative.

WHO and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) actively contribute to global water supply and sanitation monitoring and information dissemination through the Joint Monitoring Programme under the umbrella of UN Water.

These priorities include water scarcity and pollution sanitation, safe drinking water and health gender mainstreaming in water and sanitation integrated water resources management transboundary water issues and disaster reduction.

Training of managers and technicians in the fields of management, operation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation systems is important to their effective operation.
