For sustainable livelihoods

The concept of livelihoods is directly drawn from the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA) to international development.

We are supporting governance, human rights and sustainable rural livelihoods.

Livelihood industries are those, which assure sustainable sources of livelihoods for the rural poor.

(e) Pilot interventions developed, implemented, monitored and evaluated on sustainable livelihoods and crime prevention.

A pilot project on sustainable livelihoods to prevent trafficking in persons was developed for Albania.

Improving livelihoods in an urbanizing world

It is essential to ensure that recovery and reconstruction efforts do not reconstruct pre disaster risks that contributed to the disaster in the first place, but aim at creating more sustainable livelihoods.

In general, UNODC will promote fuller functional integration of all the key aspects of drug abuse and crime prevention, drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation, HIV AIDS prevention and care, and sustainable livelihoods.

However, urgent action was required to maintain the environmental foundation of sustainable livelihoods, since ecosystems were still being eroded and the essential services derived therefrom were still being used in an unsustainable manner.

Small farmers need options other than slash and burn farming to boost their meager incomes. There is a clear need for an integrated land management approach involving conservation, rehabilitation, investment in sustainable livelihoods, and institutional reforms.

Speakers emphasized the importance of work in the area of sustainable livelihoods, which provided support to the design and implementation of quality alternative development programmes and projects in all key regions where illicit drugs were produced.

Because WASH is linked in many ways to people's livelihoods and sustainable development in general, it is an important input not just for Target 10 of Millennium Development Goal 7 but for all of the Goals.

They welcomed the UNODC initiative to develop a partnership and strengthen the dialogue with various development agencies, such as the World Bank, on the issues of money laundering, the financing of terrorism, corruption, HIV AIDS and sustainable livelihoods.

With the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNHCR strengthened collaboration by deploying ILO livelihood experts to UNHCR offices in nine largely African countries who worked to promote sustainable livelihoods and self reliance for refugee and returnee women and men.
