These estimated requirements are needed to cover the salaries and related staff costs of UNIDIR regular staff.

The amount of 1,075,000 provides for the salaries, common staff costs and staff assessment for five continuing posts and one additional post (P 3).

Salaries and common staff costs of international staff are net of staff assessment and are based on standard costs for United Nations Truce Supervisory Organization (UNTSO) which is applicable to Cyprus.

Salaries

Staff, especially those who are locally recruited and who commonly earn far less than their counterparts in other agencies, should have appropriate salaries.

The variance of 3,869,200 under this heading is attributable primarily to increased requirements for Mission subsistence allowance and common staff costs for international staff offset in part by reduced requirements under international salaries.
