(vii) The Area Staff Provident Fund was set up to provide a retirement fund for area staff members on their separation.

The contribution rate for the Central Provident Fund is now 34.5 for people with higher incomes.

The Provident Fund humanitarian loan system was never intended to grant loans in any commercial sense.

This makes men and women eligible for General Provident (G.P.) Fund, Gratuity and other pension benefits.

13.6 The only major insurance benefit scheme for most workers is the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF).

Some Latin American and Caribbean countries have gained considerable experience in developing innovative pension and provident fund schemes.

(iii) A provident pension fund with no disability or death coverage and ad hoc adjustment of pension benefits

Neither can the Provident Fund nor any part of it be used for any other purpose than the one for which the Fund was established.

3. United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Provident Fund Advisory Committee

The estimation of the present value of Provident Fund loans on an aggregate basis indicates that the difference between the book value and the present value of the Provident Fund loans would be immaterial relative to the overall balance sheet total and amount to 1,371,727.20.

The Committee recommends that HKSAR enable domestic helpers to acquire pension rights through their inclusion in the Mandatory Provident Fund.

Most are not covered under the Vanuatu National Provident Fund by their employers even though by law anyone receiving a monthly wage of VT 3,000 is required to contribute to this superannuation fund.

My brotherinlaw was not what one calls a provident father.

The Vanuatu National Provident Fund provides options for non wage earners to contribute however, few do and it is suggested that many do not know about this provision.

The substance of the Provident Fund loans is a facility that would allow the members of the Fund to have access to their individual Fund credits in the form of an advance withdrawal repayable over a number of years, depending on the humanitarian purpose of the loan.

The above charges have been allocated to each fund based on the total credits due to participants in each fund at 31 December 1993 with the exception of (a) the travel costs of Staff Provident Fund Representatives and (b) staff costs incurred in the fields of operation.

In paragraph 135, the Board recommended that the UNRWA Area Staff Provident Fund make the necessary process changes in order to recognize humanitarian loans at amortized cost and to ensure compliance with International Accounting Standard 39.

85. The Board further observed that the analyst programmer in charge of the Personnel Payroll System and the Provident Fund does not have a trained full time assistant or a backup to assist in programming and documentation duties.

As a result of the significantly high number of domestic helpers, the Vanuatu National Provident Fund has introduced an additional category of membership to cater specifically for women engaged in domestic work to also benefit from the superannuation scheme.

14.9 According to the contributors to the Vanuatu National Provident Fund, 82 women and 506 men out of a total of 19,156 are categorized as skilled Agriculture and Fishery workers signifying that almost all subsistence farmers do not contribute (Kaleb, 2002).

Private and statutory enterprises have their own scheme such as the Medical Benefit Scheme of the Vanuatu National Provident Fund, the Medical Benefit of the National Bank of Vanuatu and the medical benefits for staff at the University of the South Pacific.
