In acknowledging the need for reliable data and information for gender mainstreaming, particularly to effectively carry out gender analysis, a number of Governments14 provided examples of efforts taken to improve data collection and development of gender specific indicators.

29.7 The Office undertakes a number of activities to support the Organization's commitment to gender mainstreaming, including oversight of United Nations gender mainstreaming efforts.

In addition to establishing general policies on gender mainstreaming, a number of countries have developed specific policies and action plans on mainstreaming gender perspectives into different sector areas.

A large number of countries reported on initiatives taken to incorporate gender perspectives in national sector policies, strategies and programmes.

A number of countries indicated that they had established partnerships with NGOs and other bodies to work on gender mainstreaming.

An increasing number of Governments10 took steps to mainstream gender perspectives into economic policies and programmes, including in the labour market.

Gender centres launched a number of researches the most important was the B H Gender Barometer conducted by statistics institutes, but the practice has not become the regular task.

The number of candidates of the less represented gender has to be at least equal to the total number of candidates in the list divided by three, rounded to the first lower whole number.

With the financial support of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality, the Research Centre for Gender Equality (K.E.TH.I. ) and its branches have carried out a considerable number of quantitative and qualitative research studies on domestic violence.

However, the increased number of women in the public and political arenas does not necessarily indicate the achievement of gender equality and justice.

A number of countries19 reported on the development of gender impact assessment tools in different sectors, such as health, education and agriculture.

On Twitter, they announced Million_ID Egypt is ranked number 120 among 128 countries when it comes to gender inequality.

Since 2000, a growing number of countries have taken steps to develop a gender sensitive approach to budgetary allocations.

Gender equality and gender mainstreaming

Gender equality issues were addressed by a number of parliamentary bodies, including the Gender Equality Subcommission of the Commission on Human Rights and Public Affairs and the Women's Interparliamentary Cooperation Group, and by specially designated officials in every government Ministry.

The Government completed its deliberation of existing national laws and cited quite a number of laws that were still gender biased and discriminative against women.

There are a number of clear entry points for women's advancement and gender equality, such as citizen participation, accountability of government and protecting human rights.

The Lebanese University had introduced gender mainstreaming in its law, media, humanities and health faculties, and a number of private universities had similar pilot projects.

UNHCR is increasing the number of women in leadership positions within camp committees to improve prevention of gender based violence.

To flesh out its social policy, SZ I established a number of working groups, including one that focused on gender.

There has also been an increase in the number of offices and focal points established at municipal, district and provincial levels to address gender equality issues.

As part of the efforts to advocate for mainstreaming gender into security sector programming and reform efforts, the Institute prepared an analytical framework for gender and security sector reform which contains a number of resources and is available on the Institute's website.

To eliminate this phenomenon, the State has developed and adopted a number of legal and regulatory acts and State programmes and action plans, which has fostered gender equality.

With respect to information sharing, the Committee was informed that the number of resources available online had been considerably expanded and developed in a number of areas, including gender mainstreaming, and that visits to the INSTRAW website had more than doubled.

Similarly, on a number of questions concerning gender equality including political leadership, equal access to higher education, and wifely obedience the numbers continued a downward trend.

A number of reports included attention to gender perspectives that were not reflected in the relevant General Assembly resolutions 59 220, 59 225 and 59 244.
