Report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Yakin Ertürk

This is my second report to the Commission in my capacity as the Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

That endeavour formed part of the response to the recommendations made by the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on Violence against Women, its Causes and Consequences.

Citizens have the right to appeal to the courts against the acts that violate their recognized rights as observed in the Constitution and law.

The work of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women in its entirety will be drawn upon for the study.

In July 2005, the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on violence against women, carried out a fact finding mission to Afghanistan.

In particular, the Division maintained contact with the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, in the follow up to the Secretary General's in depth study on all forms of violence against women.

Taking note of the report of the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on violence against women, its causes and consequences,E CN.4 2000 68 Add.4.

He proposes that the Special Rapporteur on violence against women should also be included in the joint mission and calls on the United Nations to provide the appropriate resources for the mission.

Requests the Secretary General to ensure that the reports of the Special Rapporteur are brought to the attention of the Commission on the Status of Women at its fiftieth session, the General Assembly, as well as to the attention of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and requests the Special Rapporteur to present an oral report to the General Assembly at its sixtieth session

Requests the Secretary General to ensure that the reports of the Special Rapporteur are brought to the attention of the Commission on the Status of Women at its fiftieth session, the General Assembly, as well as to the attention of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and requests the Special Rapporteur to present an oral report to the General Assembly at its sixtieth session

14. Calls upon States to adopt preventive measures and effective responses to acts of violence committed against civilian populations as well as to ensure that those responsible are promptly brought to justice, as provided for by national law and obligations under international law

Welcoming the invitation by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to members of the Committee on the Rights of the Child and to the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, it causes and consequences, to visit the country,

Invites the Special Rapporteur on violence against women to cooperate closely with non governmental organizations working on harmful traditional practices, especially the Inter African Committee

4. Calls upon States to adopt preventive measures and effective responses to acts of violence committed against civilian populations and to ensure that those responsible are promptly brought to justice, as provided for by national law and obligations under international law

Ms. Ertürk (Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences) said that in order to eliminate violence against women, every effort must be made at all levels, not only in the long term but immediately, to change mindsets.

Calls upon States to adopt preventive measures and effective responses to acts of violence committed against civilian populations and to ensure that those responsible are promptly brought to justice, as provided for by national law and obligations under international law

Finally, she asked the Special Rapporteur what lessons she had learned during her country visits in which she had focused on cultural practices in families and communities that resulted in violence to women.

(b) To cooperate closely with all relevant United Nations bodies, as well as with the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on violence against women, its causes and consequences, when preparing the study

The resolution requested that the study be conducted in close cooperation with all relevant bodies of the United Nations, as well as with the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights on violence against women, its causes and consequences.

According to the report of the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, polygamy is common in many parts of Cambodia (E CN.4 2003 75 Add.1, para. 951).

An analysis of the collection of assessed contributions was performed to evaluate the level of recovery of current assessments, as well as contributions that remain outstanding from prior financial periods.
